Q&A - Why a Woman's Church

First Woman's Church is the only one of its kind.  Although it is designed to explore feminine spirituality from an African American Woman's point of view, both the Los Angeles congregation and the Bay Chapter congregation are multi-cultural.

When asked why she started this church, Rev. Crystal Clarity Bujol, answered:

"So women can come together and change the formula of the mother's milk, a formula of thoughts, actions and words which have created the world in which we live today.  With a new formula, we can recreate it into what we want it to be for tomorrow -- but, only if all women come together as sisters ."

So, why does she place an emphasis on the church being AfroCentric if she wants all women to feel welcome?

"People all over the world are working on the same thing we are working on - changing the formula.  Each group has a different slant - a different path - A different way to reach the goal.  We are offering an idea which has its roots in our South Central L.A. Community.  This idea is an American African contribution to this already ongoing magnificent work of healing the planet.  We keep light on the forgotten truth that once upon a time, we were all family - once upon a time, we were all African!"

In response to the question, "Is the first woman's church only for women of African descent?"  Rev. Crystal replies:

"No.  The FIRST Woman's Church is for all women who are on the spiritual path of enlightenment, for women who know and understand that all religions have their roots in African history and philosophy. "

When asked if there is a concern about alienating non-African women by maintaining an "AfroCentric" point of view, Rev. Crystal responded, "Not at all.  It is important for women to develop relationships with each other as community - as a family of women.  FIRST Woman's Church finds this unity through the blood line of the FIRST woman.  Being AfroCentric means we acknowledge each other as offspring of the FIRST woman, whose bodily remains were found in Africa.  This perspective makes us know that we are already sisters, already family, not becoming family.  This perspective changes our thinking from Awanting to be@ sisters to Aknowing that we are already@ sisters, through this FIRST woman."

Why is it important to have a separate church for women?  According to Rev. Crystal, "It is important to have a church for Women (only women) to create a safe space for sisters to come together and nurture each other in a womanly manner without the distractions of male energy.  The word church has as its root meaning circle.  In this woman's circle, we have a big job to do as we graduate into the Aquarian Age.  We have children to birth and raise (both sons and daughters), sisters to nurture, brothers to educate and re-educate, and a planet to heal.  In order to do our best job, we have to be ready.  To fortify ourselves in this endeavor we need to walk the beauty walk, maintain our space to be and live, move and have our being in a balancing environment.  Woman's Church is one of the places where we can serve each other spiritual vitamin B:  womanly beauty, balance and being.  This spiritual "vitamin B"  supplements a woman's spiritual diet - fortifying, strengthening and empowering ourselves as women to deliver the highest and best we can to humanity and awaken our sleeping Goddess: that Divine and Holy Woman Within!"

All women are invited to celebrate womanhood, sisterhood, and Goddesshood with us as we light the fire in our Candle Lighting ritual every Sunday at The First Woman=s Church in the City of the Angels and other holy cities in the world.
