we know we are all sisters.

A Poem of First Women's Church

Presence

body full

heart full

mind full

spirit full

Filling the betweens of body

heart

mind

spirit

Binding all of us to truth

to informed compassion

to reaching out as the sun reaches out daily to warm all,

like cats curled cozily in golden moments,

in our golden opportunities

shifting through every night as the moon phases

through every woman

every ocean

every tide of love and passion

We insist consistently

We are love

We are here

Sisters,

Goddesses,

Queens

Together

Infinite Grace Unrelenting

A VISION OF UNITY

WHAT SISTERS ARE SAYING

“Every good thing raises the vibration of the world 🌎 and yes that speaks to my soul.”

As a college student, I was a co-founder of The African Women's Collective. I wanted to be apart of a sisterhood that provided love and support for All African women on campus and in the greater Los Angeles community I wanted an organization that honored African women, provided encouragement and protection, and place where we could be ourselves unapologetically and love ourselves and each other and empower one another daily. 1st Church feels like an extension of that experience. It feels like home.

First Woman’s Church has been a positive affirming space of my spirituality and femininity. It allows me to realign and focus on what matters each week. I am a work in progress. I’m learning to release so much pain I didn’t know I had within. My spiritual and mental well-being have been enriched. I have been encouraged and uplifted. I am honored to share in this space. I am learning to build happiness, joy, and peace within me.

Thank you for this space. Growing up in the church, I always wondered where women were in spirituality. I determined the Holy Spirit had to be a woman. Coming here has affirmed that for me🙏🏾

Rev. Dr. Elaine Word served as minister of the Bay Chapter Woman's Church 1988.  Members from the Los Angeles Church, while staying at her home on the weekends we had services there, also conducted Enneagram classes and personal development workshops. Sunday Services were held at the Berkeley Unitarian Church.  Thank you Elaine for sharing your sanctuary for us to do our healing work up there!

OF COURSE, SOME HAVE GONE BEFORE US TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR THE REST OF US!

And we remember them with great love . . .
